On this day in 1938, a fire began in the Grier Brothers Paint Shop. Wind swept flames from building to building, spreading to the Windsor Apartments and Cupid Ice Cream Shop. The Windsor Restaurant and liquor store were damaged as well. The Oscar Ackerman, Dr. Frank E. Brereton and George Lindenkohl families were evacutaed from their apartments. In addition Miss Florence Tease, who was working at the shop for the fire, was holding $18.00 of a $25.00 fund belonging to the graduating class of Milford High School and that the money was lost in the fire. City Manager, Charles Banning suffered injuries while helping battle the blaze which caused over $10,000 dollars in damages. (Charles Banning was a member of the Carlisle Fire Co.)
