This Day in Carlisle History

It was on this date a Monday evening in 1892 approximately 9:30 pm an alarm of fire was sounded involving the stables behind the Central Hotel located on Northwest Front St. the fire had rapidly engulfed the stables and was now threatening not only the Hotel but was impinging significant damage to the entire town. According to reports, citizens set up two lines of men to the river, which was about 25 yards from the hotel, wetting the side of the building in order to save not only the buidling but other structures threaten by the confligration.
